NCS 2018 Whizkids Competition: Registration Procedures for Secondary Schools

The Nigeria Computer Society, NCS National Information Technology Competition for Private and Public Senior Secondary Schools[SS1 – SS3] Calls for Entry. The National Information Technology Whizkids Competition is open to students in Private and Public Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

 

 

 

The Nigeria Computer Society considers the Competition as a development process and encouragement of excellence amongst secondary school students across the country, who are the future leaders of this great nation.

 

Guidelines for participation:

 

 

Interested Secondary Schools should complete the registration form online for two (2) candidates with evidence of payment of N2, 000.00 (Two thousand naira only per school) registration fee. Only students from SS1 to SS2 are eligible to participate.

  1. Historical Development of Computer: Early calculating aids, modern computers, notable scientists and important dates
  2. Classification of Computers by Generations: 1st Generation, 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation, 4th Generation and 5th Generation
  1. The basic computer concepts of computers. Operations performed by the computer
  2. Types of computer: Digital, Analog and Hybrid
  3. Types of memory and storage
  4. Classification of modern computers: In terms of size, type of data processed, processing power and purpose
  5. General characteristics of modern computers
  6. Hardware and its components on the computer system. Computing devices and computer peripherals (examples and their uses)
  7. Software and its components on the computer system:Definition and types (examplesand their uses)
  8. Operating System (OS): Introduction, types and classifications
  9. Booting process
  10. Computer Ethics
  11. Computer attacks and crime. Hackers, Cyber Gangs, Crackers, Virus Authors, Spies.

  2. Database Concept: the meaning of data, information, Table, field, andrecord
  3. Data representations
  4. Computer laboratory management: organization, preventive measures and best practices
  5. Computer Virus: Definition, types, and detection
  6. The Internet: meaning, history, main aim and uses (relating to business and social activities) Computer and the society: Application of computer technology (as it affects MIS and Decision Support Systems), different fields in which computer is used, advantages and disadvantages of computer
  7. Internet: Uses, protocols, resources and applications
  8. Introduction to programming languages. Types and classifications of programming languages. Introduction to C programming language
  9. Introduction to Web Development (html, CSS, php, javascript)
