A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has ordered the tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, to stop conducting the post unified tertiary matriculation examination for candidates.
The court declared the post-UTME, restored last year, is illegal, and in violation of section five, sub-section one and two of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) act. Justice John Tsoho, gave the order in his ruling on a suit filed by the legal defence and assistance project, against the National Universities Commission and Education Minister, to challenge the post-UTME.
The judge ruled that only JAMB is empowered to conduct matriculation examination and admit candidates into tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.
