Nigerian States Currently Affected with Bird Flu + Prevention Tips

The federal government recently announced that seven states in Nigeria currently have Bird flu (Avian Influenza or HPAI H5) outbreak and there is a possibility of the virus spreading if not properly quarantined.

Bird flu (also known as Avian Influenza or HPAI H5) is a viral disease that affects wild birds, captive wild birds and domestic poultry.

You should also know that infected birds can shed avian influenza virus in their saliva, mucous and feces and Bird Flu can be contacted when enough virus gets into a person’s eyes,nose or mouth, or is inhaled.
Prevention Tips Against Bird FLU
1.Poultry workers should carryout biosecurity and infection control practices.
2. Frequent Hand Sanitization
3. Poultry workers should get a seasonal influenza vaccination every year.
4. Cook ALL poultry food thoroughly to kill virus.

5. Report health-related cases or any flu-like symptoms
